    Columbus and Las Casas

    Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was written in history books as an adventurer, skilled and brave conquistador. The hero of the New World. Well, to the surprise of many, he was much the opposite. Columbus became the first agent of European Imperialism in the Western Hemisphere by force, claiming the island of Hispaniola by presenting himself as a dedicated Christian who killed and abducted the indigenous people of Hispaniola in the hunt for gold.

    Bartolome de Las Casas

Bartolome de Las Casas was a prolific Spanish writer/historian as well as a missionary in the Dominican Republic. De Las Casas became one of the first to expose the oppression of the indigenous people by Europeans in the Americas. His courageous stand against the abuse of the oppressed during the colonization of the New World earned the title “Defender” of Native Americans.

  • A Century of United States Intervention created the Immigrant Caravan/Immigration crisis.

They are tired. Having walked thousands of miles leaving behind their families and culture in search for freedom and a better future. Their life has not been easy. Departing from their home countries of Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, these immigrants are escaping decades of gang violence, sex-trafficking, oppression, poverty, and persecution. Still, many seem them as invaders and dangerous. The sad reality of modern life is that people, especially privileged individuals, have become desensitized to the suffering of other humans. Its as if they believe their problems are of greater importance then that of millions of underprivileged people who live in poverty. The irony of the global situation we are facing is that the US singlehandedly created the Central American crisis we have today.

All three of these countries have seen an increase of people fleeing. According to the United Nations Refugee Agency, an estimated 388,000 fled the countries in 2016, with similar numbers continuing in 2017.

  • The Law of Hypnotic Rhythm & Drifting

    Hypnotic Rhythm

What is hypnotic rhythm? Would you believe this universal law can be used to gain permanent mastery over human beings? According to Napoleon Hill, any impulse of thought the mind repeats over and over again, forming a habit, develops an organized rhythm. In order to prevent unwanted habits from forming, they must be broken before they undertake the proportions of rhythm. In other words, any thought which is constantly repeated through habit reaches the proportion rhythm and as a result, nature makes the habit permanent. The essence of hypnotic rhythm is to attract permanently all habits, mental or physical one thinks about most. Ex. If your mind fears illness, your mind will attract illness. If your mind commands prosperity and awaits it, your mind will draw the physical and financial equivalents of prosperity. As we think about this, it is easier to understand why both success and failure are a result of thought- habits. Habits create one’s rhythm of thought, and that rhythm attracts the target of ones dominating thoughts.

    Drifting

Ok, so you’re probably wondering what drifting has to do with any of this. A drifter is someone who allows himself to be controlled and affected by circumstances outside of his own mind. This individual would rather permit negative energy and thoughts, which come from the devil, I know I went there, to occupy his mind and do the thinking, rather than go through the trouble of thinking for himself. In simpler terms, a drifter is someone who accepts anything life throws in his way without putting up a fight. Once you drift in one direction, soon you will be drifting in all directions. In reality, drifting and procrastination are the same. A habit which causes one to put off reaching a goal (procrastination) leads to drifting.

“Out of the bliss comes magic, wonderment and creativity.” —Michael Jackson

postI was 23 years old when I first realized I had fallen in love with reading. At this time I was still suffering from severe anxiety and depression. Lack of sleep, extremely poor eating habits and a negative mindset left me feeling drained. I wished and dreamt for the day that life would be better and magically lead me to success. Rapidly I realized life wasn’t going to hand me what I wanted. Nature doesn’t play that game. I am not entitled to anything, wishes don’t come true. Action does. Literally, any action. So I got to reading. My journey to self-discovery, self-discipline, and personal growth began by simply reading. And trust me, I read plenty of boring articles and books in college and never enjoyed them or took any value out of them. That’s not the kind of reading I’m talking about. I began choosing my own books, searching for knowledge, meaning, and purpose. Ever since life has been extraordinarily different. For my first post, I’ll leave you with some of the habits I have implemented in my life which have changed my attitude and mindset for the better.
